This is so frustrating.
Can't get anything more than two lines to take. Is there a trick to this?

Okay, I'm going to persevere with this. It would seem if I post the same thing three times it'll work.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Everyone!
I'm embarking on a new career path in life having decided to go into nursing.
While eventually, I would like to qualify as a Registered Nurse, I've decided to start with a Cert III in Aged Care and work my way up to it.
Based in Queensland at present, I would also eventually like to work in Melbourne but, first things first (which is qualifying).
I have completed some studies in aromatherapy on the side and hope to eventually incorporate this into my work down the track.
What made me change? Something quite profound really. I was discussing why I was bored in my former career and realised it was the limitations placed on relationships with the client as a person. I wanted more, as in to be able to do more for their wellbeing and to receive more from the person too in terms of a human exchange and I would never be able to get that in law.
I could never really pinpoint why I was forever dissatisfied and as soon as I said it, we looked at each other and that was it, an aha moment if you will.
So, realistically, I undertook some volunteering and with that under my belt, I'm satisfied that this is the right path for me right now and my family think I've lost my mind....
So here I am.
:)
Aromagirl, interesting to learn of your decision...have you considered Cert IV straight up? that would give you a Div 2 (enrolled nurse). If you start from cert III on, it will take a long time before you realise being an RN. If its possible to go Cert IV, do consider it. From then on its only another 2 years in Uni to get your RN. All the best.
Well for a start there is no Cert IV nursing in Queensland. It's always been the Diploma.
Also, in other states (eg. NSW) the Cert IV has now been superseded by the Diploma of Nursing and I'm not paying $12,000 to do it :)
However, I don't feel that a higher qualification is necessarily a better option. By doing the Cert III I will be acclimatising to an industry I've not worked in for some time. I'll be learning on the job as well as off it and maximising my learning opportunities by not having as much responsibility. It's also been dead easy to get a job in the industry as a result. Furthermore, I'm not in a rush to get to RN status. My personal opinion is that two years to RN is a bit rushed. And besides, there so much more to nursing than getting your registration :)
So, yes, I did consider uni straight up. I also considered other options but have decided that the best way forward for me is to start in Aged Care with a Certificate III.
Cheers,
:)
Cert IV or diploma...they are the same...some instituitions are still referring to them as such, hence my interachanging use of Cert IV and Diploma. I did age care nursing and cert III before I decided to jump up to Div 1, hence having done so, I felt that I could have done better if I had not lingered in age care for as long as I did. I only thought of sharing my experience with you and encouraging you to go the higher qualifications but I feel from the tone of your reply that you're upset with me...So sorry if I did. Anyways Good on you for having decided to go from Cert III, all the best
BTW doing an RN or EN, you will still learn a lot as you will have to do placements and all of them are graduated to ensure that you have as wide a scope of experience as possible. Example..clinical placement 1, most of the work experience is similar to that of an AIN or EN endorsed. CP2, you start giving injections (Ims or Sub-Qs), CP3 you're doing IVs and one block in mental health. You also get your own case load and do hand overs from CP2 onwards...having worked as an AIN and EN and comparing to Uni's clinical placements, I think the scope of experience is about the same as what one would achieve whilst working at the same time.
Can't imagine where you would've gotten the tone from. My sentences are even marked by smiley icons :)
Not to argue a small point but it must be said as others read this forum.
The Diploma of Nursing is not the same as the Cert IV of Nursing. And it never has been.
The Diploma is a higher qualification that has superseded the Cert IV in Enrolled Nursing in some States in order to meet the growing demands of the profession.
I can appreciate that everyone finds his or her way into a career path doing various things and that's cool. If someone wants to do the RN course straight up, then that's great. If they want to do a lesser qualification then that's good too. Some people choose never to undertake the RN - it's all the one to me.
Cheers,
:)
