Hi everyone! I am new to this site, after many , many years of wanting to be an RN ( all my children are now at school), I finally got the courage to apply to UWS to do my Bachelor Of Nursing. I already have my Cert 3 in Aged Care. Unbelievably I got an offer!! I still cannot believe that after all these years of wanting to be a nurse it is finally going to happen. I am 34, so it has been many years since I have studied, but I am looking forward to the challenge, just hope my family can cope :P

Hi there. I also have just been accepted to do nursing at UWS (as a NSL ie: mature age or old). I am going to the Hawkesbury campus, where are you going?

Schizo, are you a diagnosed schizophrenic? because nursing can be EXTREMELY disappointing. Cleaning up shit, emptying colostomy bags, emptying stoma bags, changing adult and paediatric nappies, mopping blood, sweat, tears and urine up off of the rusted, decaying shower floor - these are the tasks of a regular medical/surgical ward nurse.

LOL...Been there, Done that and I STILL LOVE IT... Oh you forgot - bagging the dead, de-fribillating the occasional naughty patient, have a patient puke on me from oncology...imagine having cytotoxic puke over me...lol I was an accountant managing asia pacific group of companies but gave all that away for nursing. So I can understand where Nurse_Kath! and Becca's coming from...Just wanna encourage them to pursue their dream, I find that most who come in as a mature age nurse tends to have a little bit more appreciation of their role ... I guess life experiences can make us see life as more than parties and having a great paying job. The learning never ends and I am just loving it.

@ Upcoming RN, if you see it as full of disappointments, why are you studying to be an RN. Its a career that requires an altruistic outlook at life...certainly seems that you have a negative view of things...maybe it not me that is Schizophrenic...lol

Upcoming RN. i gotta say that u really r quite rude. u say yr 17, yr still a school kid, yet u seem to have SOOOOO much knowledge and experience. something in all yr posts simply does not make sense or gel with me. then u come here and insult RN students....... as im sure they have learning ,u, for some reason like to run down. i dont get it....if u 'knew' everything u say u do u wouldnt still be in high school, and without yr cert 3 as a minimum some of yr formal experiences simply wouldnt happen. yr a wannabe dude. do u suffer from nurse envy perhaps. i dont know why but i take yr comments to schizo personally and they certainly scream yr lack of maturity. we all can google info and make ourselves sound smart.........
im so sorry if im wrong, but quite simply i dont believe a lot of what u post is yr true experiences at all. in reality, yr prob an old cranky and unfulfilled man who is trolling for sport. again, apologies in the unlikely event im wrong........ u sir, would in fact be a dangerous nurse.

Thanks Quirks...I was humouring that kid for a while. It did irked me a bit but like any RN, I accept these comments like what I get from doctors...let it slide over my head...lol In fact like you, I am worried that should he graduate with such an arrogant disposition, he WILL become a danger to others and cause a lot of strive within the team. Anyways, I still wish him all the best and hope he will grow into becoming a great RN. Everyone deserves a fair go...me included...lol

Oh well I wasnt expecting to be put down for trying to achieve something that I love...lol. But I suppose at 17 you cannot have an old head on young shoulders. Anyway Im happy with my choice & hope to be a brilliant nurse. Also I do understand that bodily fluids are involved, I have worked in aged care!
