Hi Anne,
Unfortunately you won't be able to get any copy of the Vetassess Test they are never released - they are retained by the organisation who runs them. I may be able to help you out though as I sat my Vetassess test in November of this year. There is as they say on their site the Literacy Numeracy and English components to the exam with the time limits that they refer to. One of the most difficult things is the time factor.
The literacy was fairly basic just understanding and interpreting instructions, a bit of spelling, really just some general english grammar questions. As for the numeracy it's not that difficult but it is not set out like on their website each question is presented as a problem, there are some very basic graphs to interpret, I would strongly advise you to be really competent with conversions of fractions and percentages especially percentages! As for the English part I can be far more help to you as the site states you get 45 mins and you will be required to write a letter, answer 3 comprehension questions and write an essay. The letter was write a letter to a friend, son, daughter...to encourage them to quit smoking there is also an article with some stats and info about smoking you really should include at least 2 things from there to demonstrate your ability to read something and transfer it into something of your own. Next there is an article on Co-operation and Competition with 3 questions related to the article like what is the difference between the two the article provides you with the answers so don't stress too much about that. The essay was Why do you want to become a Div 2 nurse. I suggest that you practice writing the letter and essay so you're one step ahead when you get to this section.
I found the literacy fairly easy to complete in the time limit. The Numeracy was a different story I ran short of time with 5 mins to go I still had about 7 questions left to complete as they are all multiple choice answers so I just had a quick look and marked what looked like could be a possible correct answer - at least I had something down for all questions.
One of the best bits of advice i can give you is to buy or borrow from a library any books to do with literacy and numeracy in regards to Careers selection tests. I completed a Bridging into Nursing course before I did the test so I felt quite confident and prepared when i did the test. I strongly recommend these types of courses run by some local tafes they are also looked upon favorably in the interview selection when you progress to that stage. My marks got me into 2 private colleges and my local tafe and I also decided to apply for Div 1 and have now just accepted an early round offer so it looks like it will be Div 1 for me.
Don't be afraid to apply for the uni's as well not all universities require the STAT entrance test. The VTAC forms can seem daunting but I know people who even had friends or professionals who wrote theirs for them - I chose to do it myself though. Anyway good luck with all that I'm sure you will be fine just remember to try and be calm on the day/night of the test and if need be steer clear of people who may stress you out more - a positive attitude goes a long way! If you have any questions at all you are welcome to email me on day61break@gmail.com and I may also be able to locate some maths questions that were very similar to the ones on the test.
Regards Jill
