I am a PCA enrolling in Division 2 Nursing in Victoria would anyone know where I could get a harder copy of the vetassess test. I have been reading your comments and it appears the entrance exam is harder than the Vetassess test I have from that site. It has been a long time since I went to school except for completing the PCA course would anybody be able to help me please with samples of the questions.

Hi Anne,

Unfortunately you won't be able to get any copy of the Vetassess Test they are never released - they are retained by the organisation who runs them. I may be able to help you out though as I sat my Vetassess test in November of this year. There is as they say on their site the Literacy Numeracy and English components to the exam with the time limits that they refer to. One of the most difficult things is the time factor.
The literacy was fairly basic just understanding and interpreting instructions, a bit of spelling, really just some general english grammar questions. As for the numeracy it's not that difficult but it is not set out like on their website each question is presented as a problem, there are some very basic graphs to interpret, I would strongly advise you to be really competent with conversions of fractions and percentages especially percentages! As for the English part I can be far more help to you as the site states you get 45 mins and you will be required to write a letter, answer 3 comprehension questions and write an essay. The letter was write a letter to a friend, son, daughter...to encourage them to quit smoking there is also an article with some stats and info about smoking you really should include at least 2 things from there to demonstrate your ability to read something and transfer it into something of your own. Next there is an article on Co-operation and Competition with 3 questions related to the article like what is the difference between the two the article provides you with the answers so don't stress too much about that. The essay was Why do you want to become a Div 2 nurse. I suggest that you practice writing the letter and essay so you're one step ahead when you get to this section.

I found the literacy fairly easy to complete in the time limit. The Numeracy was a different story I ran short of time with 5 mins to go I still had about 7 questions left to complete as they are all multiple choice answers so I just had a quick look and marked what looked like could be a possible correct answer - at least I had something down for all questions.

One of the best bits of advice i can give you is to buy or borrow from a library any books to do with literacy and numeracy in regards to Careers selection tests. I completed a Bridging into Nursing course before I did the test so I felt quite confident and prepared when i did the test. I strongly recommend these types of courses run by some local tafes they are also looked upon favorably in the interview selection when you progress to that stage. My marks got me into 2 private colleges and my local tafe and I also decided to apply for Div 1 and have now just accepted an early round offer so it looks like it will be Div 1 for me.

Don't be afraid to apply for the uni's as well not all universities require the STAT entrance test. The VTAC forms can seem daunting but I know people who even had friends or professionals who wrote theirs for them - I chose to do it myself though. Anyway good luck with all that I'm sure you will be fine just remember to try and be calm on the day/night of the test and if need be steer clear of people who may stress you out more - a positive attitude goes a long way! If you have any questions at all you are welcome to email me on day61break@gmail.com and I may also be able to locate some maths questions that were very similar to the ones on the test.

i dont know if you'll have any luck with other exam examples... i sat the vetassess last year, im hopeless with maths, but im great with english.... and i managed to get 40/40 for literacy and 28/40 for the maths. the test i didnt think was really all that much harder than the practice exam, except that it was much longer, and obvioulsy there are time constraints and nerves involved in the real thing!

basically the maths part had some very simple questions, simple addition, subtraction or multiplication, some 'pie' type graphs which were labelled and you had to add up parts of the pie that sort of thing. then it also had other questions that i cant honestly remember, but they were more difficult and i had no idea! the english stuff was comprehension, grammar that sort of thing. symphonic has pretty much told you exactly what the english part was- i did the same test! i think they only have a few tests that they rotate.

definitely the most important thing is time management- my friend failed the maths section because out of 40 questions she only answered 25, she just ran out of time...im no better at maths than she is, but simply the fact that i answered them all meant that my odds of passing were higher than hers. she re-sat the maths section a months later and she passed. so my biggest tip is also make sure you dont waste time on things you dont know- if you really dont know, then guess- and never leave a single question without an answer. move on quickly to the next question and come back to questions that stump you (mark them with a little asterix so that you can find them easily again).

good luck with the text.
