hi, im a 24 y.o mum of 2 under 4 really hoping to study the BA nursing. I live in remote Wa so was hoping that anyone could tell me about uni's offering the course externally with placements being in there own state close to home as possible. I know that you required on campus at least once a semister which is fine, however the thought of spending weeks away on placement is what is holding me back from applying. Anyone with any information would be greatly appreciated.

Try CDU. They offer the external course and also for placements to be done local.

Hi jallie01,

I'm 27 and a mum of 2 under 4 ASWELL and ive just been offered to study my bachelor of nuring thru CQU as a flex student this year. I have done alot of research in terms of other uni's and CDU & CQU seem the most Family friendly from what i know. I was also offered a place at CSU but found out that they can not guarantee that i would find placement in my home town, so therefore i turned them down. But CQU said that they havent had any problems so far with finding students placements close by and this is more reasurring especially because i have 2 young kids and being away for all the res school dates plus having to go to placement for 2 or 3 or even 4 weeks in another state is just too much!!!!!

I hope this helps....Good Luck!!!!

Thank you everyone for your replies. The 2 places you have suggested are who i have narrowed it down to. As Rads83 said they both seem to work in with family the best in reguards to placements. Hopefully 2012 is the year for me :-) wishing you all the best with your studies!

@ Radz83, can you tell me about res schools there? Is it every semester if you take the course fulltime?

Thanks again everyone!

Hey Radz, I'm also 27 and starting at CQU this year!

Jallie, if you go full time then there will be some res school each semester. To give you an idea, as a first year (I'm full time), I have 6 days this semester but only 3 the next. From what I've heard 7 days is the most you'll ever get. The only problem you may find with placements is that there'll be less places for them to place you so you'll have little/no say in the days/times. Having said that, placement for first years has been dropped to only 80 hours.

As you're living in remote WA, I would strongly encourage you to apply for a scholarship through RCNA. CQU also offers scholarships to remote students and you may find that WA health does as well. If you're able to get one, it'll definitely help you with the cost of traveling up to QLD for res schools.
