Hi all ... I am searching for the Diploma of Nursing ONLINE DELIVERY course... However I CANNOT afford to pay $10K for a course and also think considering we have such a shortage of nurses in Aust that this is an absolutely ridiculous fee to ask, I found a great course at GCIT but it was around this price, shame on you GCIT !! Even a payment plan would not suit me as I have rent/bills to pay and I live alone, so every penny is accounted for, therefore I am looking for the same course elsewhere.

Does ANYONE know where I can do this course online and just pay standard tafe type fee's, or a course that may be govt subsidised ? I have google my heart out and cant find anything.

I do not have any centrelink concessions and I will be a mature age student.

Thanks to anyone who can assist me :)

Hey :-)

I have just enrolled in this course, and its the best one in terms of training and they have a great partnership with ramsay health care. I thought the fees were steep too, but I opted to pay with VET-FEE-HELP. Well worth it in the end :-)

Have you looked at fee help as an option?

Hi and thanks for your reply. No I dont know much about fee help, how much do you end up paying in fee's ?

I honestly cannot afford to pay much in fee's, I live alone and most of my pay is accounted for with rent and bills so there is not much left for any more debts.

Hi Chrissydee,

I am doing the Diploma of Nursing through TAFE SA. They have subsidised fees, so in all I think the course costs around the $6000 mark (correct me if im wrong anyone!)

You can pay via payment plans, but also lissam's idea is good too....as far as I know, VET is like HECS, but through TAFE. Google it and you will find some information regarding this.

I was lucky enough to score a work place program through my work (i am a carer in aged care). The government had grants for each aged care facility in SA (possibly around Australia, I dont know) for one staff member to be granted free education to do there Diploma and I was lucky enough to be picked!!!

Hope that you find out the info that you need....

Regards,

TAFE SA do do an onmline course, Port Adelaide TAFE do it, and so does Whyalla TAFE....im pretty sure that with Whyalla you have to go there x3 times for week long workshops.
Give them a call and speak to them, prolly the best thing to do!

Hello,
I was recently in the same boat as you. I am a single mum looking to get into nursing and trying to study on the cheap. I was all ready to do gold coast tafe via online delivery and pay for it later via the vet fee help but i had some family problems at the time and missed the enrolment date. Im glad i did because I am now looking at studying at CQU. The course at Gold coast only gives you the EEN qualification and after the vet fee help gets the 20% added to it you end up paying just under $18000 for the course (minded that you dont have to pay that back untill you earn over $42,000), the upfront costs are only for textbooks and uniforms which I think added up to just over a thousand dollars as well, which is good. Now while it is probably a decent course and I have heard nothing but good things, for that price you should really consider doing the RN course at a university. For example I am going to do the bachelor of nursing via distance education with CQU (which will make me RN upon completion) which will take 3 years to complete, the student contribution fees for each year are $5442 (via fee help) which works out to $16326 slightly less than the EEn course . Granted it will be harder and take a little longer but in the end i'll earn more and have more qualifications than I would with the other course. I have been investigating getting into nursing for some time now and am only beginning to understand the complexities of studying to be a nurse, there's so much waffle its hard to know where to start! good luck with it. I have found if your in doubt call around and ask other nurses most are more than willing to help you figure out which way you want to go.
Oh and by the way I am getting direct entry into the university via a free bridging program which not only prepares you for study but saves going through QTAC if you don't have OP ranks etc.

Cheers Laura

Hi .

I started at CQU 18mths ago doing the Bachelor of Nursing and have found them a great uni! If you are worried about work load and family/work life you can always do less subjects until your confidence builds . Also CQU offer subjects over summer semester which help to lighten the load throughout the year .

Hello,
I am now enrolled in Bachelor of Nursing through CQU distance ed. I start on the 27th of feb. The bridging course I did was called WIST and was especially aimed at women, it was great the teachers were awesome always anwering all the 'silly questions' i had. It reallly opened my eyes to all the university mumbo jumbo I never would have been able to keep up with my peers in the way of writting essays and using my computer properly without it. Unfortuatly the WIST program is finished so your probably enrolled in STEPS or TEP they are similar to the one I did, I believe. I finished my HSC 2004 and haven't done any study since then and I got all High Distinctions! I got into the Bachelor of nursing no worries. There is also heaps of forums and things like the facebook pages where you can keep in touch with the other studnts doing the same courses I recommend them as they really helped me.

The forums are on the moodle site that you access for all your study once you start the course you'll be able to log on there just have a good search around the site because there is always different discussions started- for example there's a discussion specifically for each module you study where people will ask a questions and help each other as they go along this saves you having to ring up or email for all your questions. The facebook pages im unsure about as I went through the moodle site on a link that was there but I'm sure if you look up STEPS or TEP on the facebook you'll find the group, you just ask to be added and someone will add you.
Cheers Laura

Thanks Laura Ill definatly look for that. I just got the go ahead to start the bridging program through CDU. Ive also applied for steps through CQU so im going to wait to hear back from them, hopefully it wont take long. From what ive read on here CQU would be better.
