Hi there

I am after any experiences from anyone that has done/is doing QUT (or Griffith) grad entry B Nursing. I am about to throw in my career of 10+ years in Financial Planning and do Nursing (am I insane....don't answer that !). My Bach degree is more than 10 years old although I have also done an Advanced Diploma that I completed this year and I also have 10+ years work experience......will I get in ?? QUT has told me I have enough to apply for Grad entry (but how selective are they ?).

I am pretty nervous about the whole thing as it has been a while since I studied FT, and even then I was straight out of high school and really didn't take my studies very seriously. I am guessing the fact that I am pretty passionate about being a nurse will work in my favour and also the fact that I am now 34......fingers crossed my maturity may also count for something ;) Juggling a family and FT study will be difficult but I'm up for the challenge.

Schizo - I have read some of your posts and you have scared me.....pharmacology sounds very full on. Do you have any advice/tips for being a grad entry student ?? Where have you done your placements ?? What are your strategy tips ?? I think I could ask you 1,000 questions....don't worry I won't. Great to see some male nurses around the traps.

Thanks to anyone that reads my rambling and replies.

Hey LAH...YOU'RE MAD!!!! Like me,...lol

Don;t worry, if your 10 year work experience is related to your financial planning, then gaining grad entry would be a piece of cake. With regards to say strategy, you need to understand what you're up against and work your hours around it.by this i mean, are you prepared to load up a few subjects in the beginning. The biggest problem with studying whilst there are pracs running is that you don;t have time to catch up on lecturers and tutorials when you're out there doing 8.5 hour shifts for your practical..well at least I don;t (brain cells in deep fry mode). So what I did is take on my elective subject in 2 year 2nd semester and trying to do another in summer. This would relief me of a lot of pressure when it comes to doing my CP 5 whihc is two 4 week placement blocks. trust me, its very hard to catch up on lectures and tutes when you're on prac. The biggest problem is when you have your pracs close to exam periods...its sort of a lucky draw each time you choose your placements...I have never been placed in an insitution of my choice!. the last prac, I was sent to Ipswich and i live in Samford! Duh!

Have confidence LAH, i am certain you will do well. What i do is to study ahead of the semester during holidays, you can download from students who have already completed some of these projects. I managed pharmacology in the same way...never attended lectures except for last week, when i got dragged in by a mate,,,yawn.

If you want to contact me for anything, just email me at zen_archery_centre@yahoo.com.au

Good luck LAH...

You make it sound more promising Schizo....I have managed to get letters covering the last 7 years of my work experience (in financial planning) am waiting for 1 more employer but if they don't respond I may fill in a stat dec.

I have a few questions that I am going to email you....hope you don't mind.

Hi Lah,

I'd love to chat with you about your experience if you're still on this forum. I too am looking to embark on a similar career change this year and would love to know more.

Hope you get this

Coco
