I have been told you can work as an EN after completing the first 18 months of RN.

does anyone know if this is true?

I know you can work as an AIN after you completed your 1st 12 months.

I do not know if you can register as an EN though... Most of my friends worked as an AIN after their 1st year in uni.

Nope not anymore that loop hole has been addressed as the EEN scope has increased with the additional responsibilities of medication endorsement and IV administration year one are not within this capacity or scope.

But I do know they brought in a 'you can't be both an EN and an RN' rule, so even if you did get the EN qual, it is null and void soon enough.

No you cannot.

ENs are NURSES who have completed a diploma of nursing. They have their own licenses, and are professionals. You can't just "work as an EN" while you complete your bachelor degree.

Hi Zoe, You can work as an EN after completing you 2nd year but it depends on a couple of things.

1. Does the university you are doing your course through offer an exit point?

2. Which state you are in?

I am in Victoria and I have spoken to the NBV about this and I am allowed to work as an EN at the end of this year of study (2nd year) as long as I complete a 2 day workshop and register with the NBV. I am just not allowed to work as a med endorsed nurse.

I second what Mel said- i contacted the nursing board about a year ago and they said it was dependent on the university your from and if they had an exit point- i assume that means if your university is a dual provider of tafe and university courses such as RMIT which offers both diploma's and bachelor degree's in Nursing but am not a hundred percent sure,  Mel- do you go to RMIT by any chance?

Hi md2706,

i will finish my diploma at the end of next year and would like to enrol to do my bachelor at La Trobe uni. How are you finding La Trobe to study at? They are the only uni to do a bachelor of nursing as a div 2 conversion.

Hi Md2706 and 90323, I am also studying at La Trobe. I am in second year and believe that (as mentioned above) we can register as EN's at the completion of this year provided we complete the 2 day additional course (however we cannot be EEN's). 
In regards to La Trobe, I really like it. I know every uni is different and theres pros and cons for all, but I have settled in really well here (I am a mature age student). I am at a rural campus and find the teachers/lecturers really approachable and helpful. A lot of my friends are Div 2 Conversion students who joined us this year (after completing first year, EN's and 2nd years are together) and have found the EN's certainly have a good head start on the study load.

Hi. Sorry, but they said it depends on the university your from. I work as an AIN after my 1st year in university and I want to work as EN after my snd year. I also asked and they told me that I need to write some paper assignments for that.
