Hi,

During my placement in nursing home, I look after this lady who are about 70yrs old. She was sitting up in her chair and having her lunch by herself, suddenly she started choking. RN encourged her to cough and finally she managed to cough.

So what if she could not able to cough, what should a nurse do? what are back blows and chest thrusts?

Big whack on the back or failing this, to blow obstruction into the lung using mouth to mouth.

You don't know what back blows and chest thrusts are?? How are you on placement without knowing that. Surely you must've had to do a first aid/cpr course?
