Hi Angc, Possible, yes, however study takes over your life, creates great stress and if I were you, I would wait until the kids were a bit older. You will have little time for them, and miss those years with them before they start school. I can honestly say that you would all suffer badly. I apologise for being cynical, but been there done that, and with a very supportive family! Give them the best of you, not the stressed out dregs :) Jellybean

I have 2 kids, study nursing full-time, work 25 hours/week and English is not my first language. The key is to be organized and to make time for kids, partner and study. You can start with 2 subjects and see how it goes, if you feel you can take more next semester than do it, if not stay with whatever you can manage. It's not easy but it's very rewarding. You need all the suport you can get from your family and partener. My husband only takes holidays for my clinical placements and I even brought my mum from overseas to babysit when my husband didn't have enough free days. Half of my fellow students have children and most of them have jobs too. I was afraid that I'm gonna be the odd one in the course but I was so suprised to see that most of the students in nursing are mature students, with families and children. You can do it! You don't have to graduate in 3 years, study 2-3 subjects/semester and eventually you'll be there. Good luck!

Hi I think its also possible to study with a small family if your not in a hurry to qualify then maybe you can study part-time or distance study then you would have more time for family.

hi all & thankyou for your relpies, i have thought very seriously about studying nursing with the kids , i even went to the open day at my uni & found it very interesting & helped me make up my mind...I have decided to wait till my kids are at least at school, at the moment my life working 3 days a week & spending the other 2 days with my kids is pretty cruisy & i love it, (can get bored some days!) but while they are only young i really want to watch them grow & learn, and i want to do it...(not have the carer at the daycare centre doing it!!) so i have realized that at the moment (i am only 29) i have loads of time to think about this & start when they are at school, i can then manage it part time & still have time with the kids ect.... thankyou for your replies every one of them was very valuable to me!!! thanks again ang (future student nurse & midwife!!!)

Hi, I think you are very wise. Enjoy your children. The quality time you will give them will pay off in the long run. jellybean

Hey all, i have 4 children ageing 7,4,2,and 9 months, im doing just fine with studys, anything you really want to do in life will happen when you set your mind to it, dont let your stress get the better of you, children stress us out more than a few study books. " we can do anything" well thats how i see it. cheers

I am studying with 2 young kids (6 years and 16 months) and despite being tired at times, it's very manageable. I have alot of family that live far away and I still manage quite fine. I guess it's up to the individual. If you are driven and motivated and really want to do it, and feel you can handle it, then go for it. Good luck.
