Thanks for reading my topic I work in an Aged Care Facility and recently I have being stressed, over worked etc I was accused of using a sharp tone with a resident and was referred to as being snappy well in this instance this resident has limited hearing so you have to talk loud, then apparently I used an incorrect tone with a staff member and it was reported. I was called in my the manager and I felt so interigated I cant speak of the content of the meeting as I would be breaching confidentiality but I felt so low and just wanted to throw it all in. I was called in at a later stage and no displinary action was taken and it was left at that but I was told to use correct tones when I speak. I do a variety of roles and shifts and feel like I am not in the click as one could call it I feel uncomfortable on some shifts and just dont know how to handle it. Has anyone got advise for me on how I can feel more secure within the industry.

Hello Nellie. I truly hope you are having a better week. Tip #1 Make sure you take holidays/breaks from Aged Care at least every six months. So many battle on and they should be looking after themselves more. I am sure you have much personal value but it appears you may not feel your contribution is valued by management or other staff. We all to need to feel we matter in the team and are indeed valued. I would imagine there are one or two people at your facility you can trust and talk with. RNs should always be prepared to listen to you.
Tones of voice. Hmmmm. It is a case of none of us doing or saying anything toward anyone else we wouldn't give them permission to do to us. And I hear you Re: the hearing impaired. We do need to speak more audibly but at the same time that doesn't involved raising the voice's tone.
In every place of work, there is Law to cover harrassment and bullying. There will be policies on this at your facility for sure. There is law that protects everyone from harassment from anyone. Might be worth exploring if you find it all continues.
For the manager to have you feel that interogated to the point of low self esteem, that is WRONG of the manager. She should be hearing you out and giving you opportunity to perform to what the facility expects of you as outlined in your Job Description. You shouldn't have felt that low you considered leaving; that is when someone else you can trust needs to be there for you. There must be one or two others confidents for you. You are human and I am sure anyone recieving whatever those Management words had been, would have felt very low too.
So head up and perform your duties to the best of your ability, following your job description and being totally respectful of all folk. The residents know who truly care for them. Be the best you can and feel you can reward yourself for a good job each day :)
