You'll be fine...the paperwork is necessary to do 2 things -

1) Provide accurate information about your client to other staff, such as RNs, doctors, management and etc etc to determine if a particular pattern in social behaviour or physical changes is developing so that interventions could be designed and implemented.

2) It also provides you an opportunity to apply critical thinking in the care that you provide....you might sometimes think back and say "hey, I should have done this instead"...and by that you have gained another step forward in knowledge and experience.

Its an opportunity for you to actively participate in the care of your patients beyond merely the physical aspect - age care is a collaborative effort involving a number of disciplines and each discipline contributing to and accessing information in these notes can then galvanize their efforts to operate as a team.

Hang in there...you will do well.

Well count me in too. I was not in the front row when brains were given out. Instead I was given good old common sense. And yes the paperwork is absolutely necessary. I know it all seems daunting while you are doing your cert 3. When you do your work placement you will get a better idea of how the care plans bowel charts food and fluid charts, Incident reports. etc. are done by the cares ,we are the eyes and ears..so what information we give is so necessary especially with funding is concerned . it is not so hard believe me. Let us know how you go when you do your work placement..

I am an RN 1 and I can assure you that you will get used to the paperwork and it will become 2nd nature to you soon. All new carers are overwhelmed at the start, but if you have a good teacher (an experienced carer) you will learn fast and will be ok, I promise you!

Good luck!

Danni You are so kind and compassionate. The RN's in charge usually always picks on people from a different ethnic background. RN isnt white australian either. I prefer to work with Australian nurses who are compassionate and understanding and always willing to help. My profile says male must have been a mistake but I am female.
I wish all people are understanding toward other people and if everyone realized that we are here to take care of residents , it would be so easy to work as a team. On the odd occassion I have met wonderful caring nurses and most of the PCA's I met at Basscare were wonderful except for that Umalia Nurse who continued to harass me and other PCA's. It is a pity the nurses who worked there said they were so unhappy when she was on that shift. They were terrified. Poor nurses. I was glad to have had only one shift with her.
This is a great website. Thank you for your replies. Schizo thank you for your reply as well. Kindness matters.
