hi i have my cert 111 in aged care, have been nursing in this field for about 4 yrs now and love what i do, i was told by a friend that all cert 111 certificate holders will have to do the medication course in the future, has anyone heard about this?? i have been told that it is a hard course where you have to get 100% in the exam to pass, i am a bit scared if this is the case as i am terrible at any kind of maths.. i just want to be able to continue what i am doing now and that is care for my residents the best way i know how, i do not want the responsibility of handing out meds. if this is the case i may be out of a job as i know i would fail miserably.
look forward to hearing from you, many thanks lorrae.

I have not heard of this test, but I wouldn't worry about it. If you are that motivated about aged care and have a passion for your work, you definitely do not need to worry about the status of your job. :) Good luck for the future.

I am not sure where you are nursing, lorraed, but the medication course is usually offered to those interested and by no means should it be put to anyone as mandatory.
I am an RN in a Aged Care facility where soon the care givers who have trained will be assisting in giving meds. That is all it is for you and similarly qualified, assisting.
You won't be doing drug calculations or getting tablets out of boxes/bottles. Only assisting as in taking tablets from a packet and giving into the hand of resident. Anything
more is no longer 'assisting' and is beyond the job scope of a Cert 111 PC.
