hi, i graduated in 2006 but have not managed to complete a graduate program due to illness. I am wanting to return to nursing, but I would like to do aged care nursing rather than doing a grad year (i have done 4 months of a general nursing grad year and about 5 months of a mental health grad year). i am wondering if there are any opportuntities in aged care nursing for div 1 nurses with limited experience, as opportunties that I have seen advertised seem to be only for people with experience in aged care and seem to all be supervisory roles. I am also interested in aged mental healthcare but I am unsure as to whether i would need to be a registered psych nurse?

i have no idea where to go to ask for help so i hope that someone can help me. thanks.

Hi there, you would be able to get a job in just about any nursing home in the country. Im an EN, i have worked in aged care for years, i didnt have any experience when i first applied for my job, i easily got work. In my opinion, aged care is very easy to get into, you will have no probs, just focus on the experience you do have and sell yourself that way. youll get the hang of it in no time. Just call around until you get an interview, hope thats helpful, sar.

Hi, I got a job as a RN div 1 in aged care, and I have no experience whatsoever in aged care. I finished my degree last year, and hadnt received a grad place this year, so I went applying everywhere. I had done a few agency shifts, but nothing in aged care. On my application letter and resume, I put my desire to learn new tasks and focused it on wanting to help elder australians. in my interview, I concentrated on my general nursing abilities, being able to manage (I had been a manager before I got into nursing in a retail environment) and showed that I wanted to learn and was up for a challenge. I got the job and I love it
