Hi to all nurses. I am an EN who trained in 1992 and now I am shocked to know that my qualification is so outdated that I cant even do my EEN without re training as an EN ( in NSW anyway). Apart from that I am a most competent nurse and have 17 years of great experience in just about all areas of nursing, including a year long stint in remote East Arnhem land in 2000. So I thought maybe I should just do my RN but I live in a country town and have a family so want to do the least travel possible and get the highest credit possible. So far Charles Darwin Uni has the best offer with DE. But the nurses registration board in NSW are becoming very strict about where people do their RN courses. Also no one seems to know what happens when nursing rego goes national in 2010 or 2011? I would welcome any ideas and feedback. Thanks L

HI , I would be interested in what people have to say on this ? I have just started a prep course with CDU , with hope of getting into the nursing course with CDU next year.

I know when i spoke to the SA tafe about the EN course they offer they told me the way its done there is you register as a EN in South Australia and then transfer your registration over to NSW .Would be nterested in knowing what i happening for the Australian wide registration on 2010/11? I hadent even heard that. Would be quite annoyed if i done a 3 year course and then wasnt able to register . I know there are a couple on the student nursing forum who have just started at CDU . They may be able to shed some more light on the registration process from CDU to NSW board ? Keep me updated on anything you hear . Thanks Szanne

At this stage if you do a course for RN in another state you can register in that state then apply to get registration in another state and you will get it. However the NRB in NSW seems to be unsure of what is happening with national registration. YOu would think that they would have to recognise the uni degrees from all states if they go national but it is a worry. Some one told me a friend got credit for some things and finished a degree in nursing and then the NRB said they could not be registered as they did not fullfill all the requirements even though the uni was satisfied with them finishing the degree. Also I am a bit peeved that for ENs it seems that we are being made to upgrade qualificatiions with the new courses becoming a diploma 18 month course and having to do the medication course but not being recongnised if our EN cert is not a cert IV etc. I work with RNs who trained 30 years ago and have never done anymore than a tafe certificate but get the top pay and more respect than ENs and dont seem to have to do any more education to upgrade to a uni degree like the contemporary RNS or even the ENS Diploma etc. Why are ENs being pushed so hard but not the old trained RNS??
