Might be a silly question, but does the course at Gold Coast Tafe give you the qualifications as an endorsed enrolled nurse or just an enrolled nurse? Also, are there many job prospects for an en as opposed to an een?

Any help would be much appreciated. Im very new to all this :)

Thanks in advance

Hi Erin
I have also enquired abt the EEN course with gold coast tafe and waiting for the next intake.
I have made a few enquiries abt the very same as ur concerns and i got told that on completion of course we wud get certified as an een not and en and i think the difference between the een and en is the administration of medications.
so if u want to do only and en course then u can later do a seperate short course for administration of medications. this is wat i was told but honestly like u im making enquiries too and this is the info i could gather maybe right or wrong too.
not sure is this helps.
goodluck :)

All new EENs will be med endorsed. In the past one can be an EN without medical endorsement but its now a requisite as knowledge of pharmacological interactions of medicine is a big component of nursing. By Med endorsed, it means that EENs can dish out pills and injectables but restricted when it comes to handling IV routes. Do make sure that the TAFE ARRANGES for your clinical placement and not leave this to you. I have known some students who were left out in the cold to fend for themselves...I must qualify that this is NOT common place practice by Institutions for Education here in QLD. Please be aware though that most major Institutions like UQ, QUT and Griffith have very strong alliances with Queensland Health. Hence they will be able to put their students on placement easily and in GOOD learning wards. I am Not sure if for TAFEs though. Just hope that your clinical placements won't be in nursing homes all the way through because you may end up with limited exposure. Good luck everyone and have fun with your studies.

Hi all, just wanted to let you all know that I am currently enrolled in the Gold Coast - Online Diploma of Nursing. And I currently work full-time and study full-time. As far as accreditation goes, when we graduate we are fully eligible to register with the Nursing Board to work and be employed as an EEN. The placement is organised by the tafe co-ordinators and if you don't live in the Gold Coast area you just to nominate where you would like to do your placement in your own town or region. All 3 placements throughout the course that you are required to complete all have to be different. First is Aged Care only. Other 2 placements have to be clinical placements. Tafe also offers Vet-fee help also, which is a big relief for those that really want to do this course but cant afford pay up front. The only up front costs to you are for your text books and medical kit (which includes uniform). All the facilitators are really good, a wealth of knowledge, there are regular chats each week which you can attend online chat rooms if you like, and if you can't they post the transcripts for you to refer back to. The only thing to be aware of is that the course is really full on, and I know that at first I was totally drowning, but now that I feel like I know what the hell I am talking about I feel more in control. However my spare time is almost always taken up by reading text books or studying online there really isn't any time for anything else. I know some of the part-timers are also feeling the pressure, so before you sign up really consider what amount of time you put towards the studying without stressing yourself out.
