Hi there,

I am so excited I found this site! I'm interested in studying the enrolled nursing course at Tafe, I work in a very unrelated field of work as a Legal Secretary although I have always wanted to work in health care of some kind but never really had the confidence to change careers and go back to school but now is the time to give it my best shot!

I am a little nervous ok very nervous!! of the entrance test. I feel confident of my literacy skills but I was terrible at maths at school so was hoping to prepare myself for the test, if anyone could give me an idea of what type of maths i need to study, also can you take a calculator in and is it multiple choice or do you write out the formula you used for the answers etc?

Also what can an EN expect to be paid starting out and after years of experience and what are the pros and cons of the job i.e. fav and worst part of the job?

Sorry so many questions but only really know two people in the health industry, one being a doctor who seems to not have the best attitude towards nurses, eeek!

Thanks so much for any info anyone can give me!!

Hi autumnflow, welcome along.

I'm not sure about the test, but I imagine it would be reasonably straight forward to ensure you could undertake drug calculations. Others can probably help with that one.

Pay rates vary from state to state, but from your email address I am guessing NSW. Rates for EN are from $804.20pw for first year EN.

It's not unusual for doctors to have poor attitudes to nurses, the most important thing is the view that other nurses and patients have of nurses.

Good luck

Thanks Darren for the pay info etc., much appreciated!

It's a shame doctors have a poor attitude towards nurses, I'm not sure why this is?? Hopefully there are also some that respect and appreciate the work nurses do.

I am hoping to do some volunteer work to gain experience and hopefully guide me in the right direction of which area of nursing I might like to work in.
