Hi again
I have to say i am quite concerned that you are in your third semester and you don't know what you are and are not allowed to do. I too am in my third semester of an EEN course. You really need to start getting yourself acquainted with your scope of practice. Ignorance is no defense. Firstly go the QNC website and look up policies and find the scope of practice for EEN's. Print it out and take it with you to placements. Secondly, when you are on placement you should be checking first the employers policy on EEN's. If you can't find it, ask the NUM or the nurse in charge of that shift. Apart from giving medication and injections, EEN's do wound dressings, observations, flush naso gastric tubes, check canulla sites, empty catheter bags, check drip rates and whatever else i have missed in the scope of practice. Think back to when you were on the surgical ward, what did you do in your time there? this information as well as your scope of practice information should be sufficient for your essay, apart from what area you want to work in the future. The questions for your essay are standard and you should know the answers by now. I don't want to be mean to you, but you should really know this information by now.
