Would appreciate if anyone could advise if Fentanyl patches(Duragesic) are available in Australia for analgesic use? Txs

Adding to the above, my father has chronic pains from mediation he is taking for his postrate cancer. Almost every night, he is awake in the middle of the night with aches in the legs and poor blood circulation. Also anyone could advise if Fentanyl is appropriate? I will check with my doctor later the week but at the moment I am away from civilization (out north north west). Txs

i think so...i think we use them at the nursing home i work at...or maybe im thinking of norspan..just ask ur gp they should be able to tell u if u can and if they're appropiate to use

Thanks Crystal, I have not seen Duragesic patches myself before, hence my post. I think the problem with Fentanyl or these patches is that they are also used in helping heroin addicts kick their habit, so it tends to lend a very negative name for itself. Anyway we found out that my dad is opiate intolerant, he reacted really badly to Morphine in a recent trial at a hospital. So he's now on tarmadol and it has been helping him manage his pain a lot better. Thanks once again

Not only are they used where I work but I actually use them myself for chronic and disabling pain it is the only way as a single income earner that I can get through a shift and then only nightshift.

I haven't heard that they are used for drug addicts but do know to dispose of carefully as there is always an amount left in the patch when discarded which can be used by drug users
