Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has worked as an EN whilst being eligible to apply for Division 1 registration? I have asked a few people and some have said you're not allowed to do this (similar to the thread below "Employment as an AIN while registered")

However, I just called up AHPRA and the guy said that you can (it is called dual registration). I then found this (http://www.anfvic.asn.au/issues/news/27947.html) on the ANF site basically saying they have petitioned for this to be allowed for students with a gap between graduation and grad year, but it is only dated September. This is my situation exactly as I will graduate mid year 2011. I have 6 months before I can start my graduate year (and plan to do a bit of travel), and do not want to begin as a casual Div 1 in an unsupported environment. I currently work as an EN for an agency here in Melbourne which I would like to continue doing until the end of 2011.

Can anyone confirm that it is actually allowed? Not that I don't trust the AHPRA guy but he sounded a bit confused with what I was asking him! Has anyone done this themselves?

Also, what does this mean in terms of registration? Will I just end up paying more as I now need to register at the end of May and again in December?

Thanks in advance for any replies! :)

Hi Eskimo,

You can work as an EN up until the point of being registered as a RN. Dual registration has not been approved as yet, and will only apply to those who have been registered as an EN prior to taking up a Bachelor of Nursing Degree.

Thanks, Bobby66, for the reply.

Would you happen to know if this is documented anywhere on the AHPRA website or in any of their publications? I've searched and can't seem to come up with anything.

Thanks!

Hi Eskimo,

I'm in the same situation. I called AHPRA and they told me it is fine for me to work as an EEN even after I get my RN rego, as long as I maintain my EN rego and work within my scope of practice.

I'm doing agency work at the moment as an EEN and will start my new grad position in February.

Best of luck to you!
