Hi guys,

Just wondering if someone might have heard of this?

Apparently it is possible, while u're studying for ur RN's, to do a short TAFE pathway into ur EEN's - i'm not sure how this works, and what level of the degree u would have needed to complete, but if anyone has done, doing or heard of this, i'd love to know!

thanks,
kate

I would contact your Nurses Board.

I know that in Vic you can do a certain amount of study as an RN and then you can work as an EN. I dont know if its 1 year or 2. I dont know anything about doing a pathway course though i thought they would automatically register.

Just contact your local nurses board and see what they say. You might be pleasantly surprised :-)

thanks keeshy, i think i'll do that!

i think this option would really boost my confidence if at the end of year two i could work as an EEN. :)

I'm not exactly sure but it probably depends on which uni and which state you're in. In Brisbane some universities are affiliated with TAFE colleges so you can do an intensive course over summer to get your EENs. I think with Griffith Uni Logan you can do it after the first year, but I'm not sure. Good luck. It'd certainly enhance your learning.

thanks for that anga23 - i did hear it from someone who was is QLD.

I ended up ringing nursingsa and the person i spoke to was very helpful. I think i'll look into it when i'm in my 2nd year and ring TAFE, if they don't do it, i'll ring the nearest hosp and see if they employ 2nd years as div 2.

:)

Hi Kate,

Yes there is a course. I did a course which was a 6 week course run over the university holidays. It was run at the end of second year of my bachelor of nursing and thus I was ABLE to work as a Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (QLD) during my last year of my nursing degree,
It allowed me better money of course but also I was able to gain valuable experience as an een.

Im not sure which state you live in. I did my in QLD
And it is called - REVERSE ARTICULATION COURSE (EEN COURSE)

Hope this helps

I did my course through TAFE. And you had to complete all second year subjects and first year subjects with passes. You had to have passed all subjects from past two years

Hi Katc82,

I have heard similar to ray_jay for Vic also.
Basically after 2nd year, assuming you have met relevant requirements you can apply for registration, i'm not too sure about the 6 week course though.
I am about to start Cert IV for div 2 which i'm doing 18 months part time (only 12 months FT) then can apply for registration. However, to go on and do Div 1 I then have to apply and be accepted and I believe I would have to do the 6 week cross over course before starting uni at 2nd year.

Here is a link for Nurses board Vic that has all the info on what is required if you are in Vic (cut and paste in to your menu bar):

Goodluck.

I think it's only Griffith Uni in Brissy that has the reverse articulation to become an EEN. Well worth doing I think. Certainly better than working as an AIN/PCA for the final year.

In NSW after successfully completing year 1 of BA Nurs, you may work as an undergraduate AIN. Of course if you're already an EN before going to uni then you can work as that. UAIN is paid around the same as EN I think anyways.Lisa
