Hi everyone,
I have just applied for the mid year intake at CQU and have a couple of questions I'm hoping people can answer for me. I have applied via alternate entry with an employment statement and PCA. Will this be enough for me to potentially gain entry without the STAT? Also, does anyone know how many places are available in the mid year distance intake? I'm just trying to get an idea of how competitive is is going to be? From what I can see, if you're not an EN it is one of the only places to take mid year nursing applicants... Any answers would appreciated!!

Hi 23nat

Your about CQU being the only place that does midyear intake if you're not an EN. Doing the PCA and giving an employment statement should give you a farely competetive chance if it was done well. I'm not sure exactly how many places there are in the intake but, as they generally do second and sometimes third offer rounds, I'm guessing that there are quite a few places. I was considering appling to CQU for this intake as well but because of several things I did not. Anyway, I did a lot of research into it and I got the impession that they really want people to get in and will bend over backwards to help you do it.

Hope this helps,

Have a friend whose an EEN on the upgrade with CQU now, She just mentioned to me that she's due for another round of practical placements but does not know the exact dates. Apparently the Uni. will only inform them 2 weeks before they are to go. Not much of a notice for her to apply for leave, especially in our ward where we so short handed. She commented that the larger Unis have a stranglehold over placements because of their strong affiliation with major hospitals, especially in the Brisbane area. Just thought I give you chaps a heads up if you are working part time and need to organise yourself around clinical placements. Good luck and all the best

I'm currently studying nursing through CQU. So far the experience has been very enjoyable. The comment about clinical placements is a valid one especially if your in Brisbane. However, the staff are excellent and very helpful. Which ever uni you decide to go with I hope you enjoy the experience.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Interesting note about the short notice for clinical placements though. First offers are this Thursday so fingers crossed!!!

I have just found out that I have been offered a place in mid year intake at CQU. Very excited to start the next stage of my life!! I live in Sydney and just want to see if anyone else on here does the B Nursing externally through CQU and lives in Sydney? Where do you sit your exams? Also, do you get a say in what campus in QLD you attend for the residential schools?

Congrats on your offer Nat. Yes, you do get to choose where you do your residential school. As a flex student you technically belong to Rockhampton, since that is where the flex program is administered from. However, you have a choice of Noosa, Bundaberg, Mackay, or Rocky for your residential school. As for your exams, they seem to have quite a variety of locations around the country. Once you log in to my.cqu.edu.au for the first time you will find an academic area where you can nominate your preferred exam centre. I'm not sure where they are in Sydney, but if you live more than 100km from an exam centre, you are able to nominate something a bit closer, presumably a local school.

As for placements there - no idea. I live in a remote and rural area of Qld, and I actually found a suitable placement for myself, let the CQU staff know about it, and they did all the negotiating from there. (First clinical placement coming up this coming semester)

You'll find them a good bunch. Really helpful and they'll work hard with you to get you through any dramas or study worries. Good luck.
