Hi Everyone, my name is Sharelle and I am hopefully going to be studying diploma of nursing at Tafe this year. I am in Tasmania, does anyone else have experience studying nursing at Tafe here?
They are holding an Infomation session at tafe on Wednesday and from the limited info they have given me, i think I will be doing the entrance test then also. I have to bring any relevant documentation which I assume is Resume and certficate for Med terminolgy that I have done. They really didn't give me very much info when I rang to book in....

It's really just a night to give you lots of information about the course. All the best

Hi, thanks for your reply.
They also said to bring a calculator, but from what i have read in other threads (i've been lurking for a while), you aren't allowed to use a calculator?! I'm so excited and nervous!!!

Well there were 36 other people at the infomation session/entrance exam, there was aslo a morning session held so i assume there would have been at least that many people for that one also. I think i did ok in the exam's, but there was a section fo fill out stating your relevant experience/qualifications, people seemed to be listing heaps of stuff and all I had to list was med terminology :-(. As I was leaving i asked the lady running it if she could give me any idea how many places were available and she said around 15!!! I don't like my chances!!!!!! I want this so much, so I guesss i will have to look at what other qualificatiions i can do over the next 12 months to give me a better chance of entrance next year. Any guidance on this would be hugely appreciated!

Hi Sharelle, I'm in Melbourne so things may be a little different here. I recently sat a vetassess exam for Div 2 at a Tafe Institute and they were taking 50 people out of approx.300 !! I can understand your frustration!! I didn't get into the tafe as my score wasn't high enough ( I didn't finish all the maths questions in time ! ) I did however get into another provider called Healthtrain. They were taking 24 people out of approx 60. ( I did get 94% on my exam though ) I was a dental nurse for 13 years before I had my children and am entering as a mature age student. I haven't studied in about 18 years. Before I applied for Div 2 I completed a medical terminology course and a first aid ( level 2 ) course. Apart from those that is about the extent of my experience. I think my dental nursing definitely helped with getting in. What sort of work experience do you have? Getting your first aid will really help if you haven't already got that but otherwise I think you should be pretty ok. Div 2 is really hard to get into and I have found that out the hard way!!! Keep trying and apply for as many places as you can. A lot of places in Melbourne aren't doing any more intakes until feb '10 now so this may also be the case in Tassie? Anyway I hope it all works out for you, good luck!! Megan

There was over 500 Students I know of who did the course in the north and only 100 or so places. Also this July intake is the last intake for 2 years so I heard. I am doing my RN by the way just completed first semester. Personally I don't know why anyone would want to become an EN when it takes the same amount of time (If you do fast track) to do your RN

HI Tassiedude, thanks for your reply. The main reason i was hoping to do EN is that it is parttime so i can still work, and it is closer to home so I think it would be easier to work it around my kids. How many days a week do you have classes?
