Hi everyone, I'm from melbourne and will be doing the bach of nursing through Cdu this year. I'm already an EEN (just finished last year) so will hopefully be going straight into 2nd year once i get my credit sorted out. Just wondering who else out there is studying with them this year? Also.. has anyone paid upfront?? rather than the hecs option. I'm looking at their fee guide which says 680 per 10 credit point? or 544 with the 20% upfront discount. Just wondering is that it.. are there any other fees i havent come across yet?? Obviously i will be enrolling in more than 1 subject so i will be looking at more than that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi alli. I am from Victoria and will be starting at CDU. I am also an EEN so will be starting 2nd year. There are quite a few others here too who will be starting at CDU this year. The fees are exactly what you have already said. I am paying some upfront and some on HECS/HELP. The only other cost i can think of is text books. How many units do you plan to study per semester?

Im thinking 2-3 a semester.. I would love to do full time.. but am a bit worried about the workload so will start with 3 first semester and see how i go from there. How many are you looking at doing?? I noticed there are a few other threads of people going to cdu but wasnt sure if anyone still checked them haha.. so thought i would start a fresh one. How did you go with your credit lulu? i am waiting to ring the uni today.. they have credited me for only 40 points.. which when i looked into it.. they have credited me as a hospital train EN which is silly.. because i only finished my course last year. Hopefully i can get it sorted today so i can enrol in my subjects.

Hi Alli, I have enrolled in 4 unit for semester one, but i am now starting to worry about it a bit. maybe 3 would have been the better option. I will just see how i go and maybe i can drop it back if it is too much for semester 2. If you have a cert IV or Diploma which i think you would have if you finished last year, then you should be credited 80cp. If you are doing 3units for the semester which one do you drop from the full time load? I am unsure what to do if i am able to change to 3 units.

Hey lulu, i think you just have to double check what classes are run for what semester and make sure u have done your pre requisites as far as which subject u could drop off.For example: I would imagine you cant do Challenge and response to body integrity 2 without doing number 1 first. I'm planning on studying over the summer semester too.. just to try and speed things up a bit.
As for my credits.. well ive been frantically ringing the uni today.. and sent two emails.. only to find out off their website that the campus is closed today due to cyclonic activity in the top end.. haha.. my bad. Anyway, i've emailed them with my credit situation.. but am just going to enrol in those 2 common units (academic literacies and northern perspectives) for the time being until i hear back from the uni.

I just decided to have a sticky beak at when the units are offered.. and going off the part time study plan...
Nur231 (challenge and response to body integrity is only offered externally in semester 1.. so looks like i will be doing 3 subjects 1st semester then.

okay i need to stop getting so far ahead of myself.. I misread the study plan.. i thought we were suppose to do the two common units first... but we are suppose to do one in 1st semester and 1 in second according to the study plan

hi Alli, im also a new EEN in Melbourne who is doing second year this year. i have to pay for my subjects up front so im only doing p/t 1st sem for that reason! like you, im kind of assuming that once i pay the $1360 for those 2 subjects then i wont have to pay anything else until i enrol in 2nd semester.

ive been advised by the enrolments officer at CDU that you can basically enrol in as little as 1 subject per semester. you dont have to go by the study plan, its just a 'guide'. so as long as you pay attention to the pre-requisites for each subject and when each one is being offered and make sure you can cover each one, then thats fine. ive worked my year out so that im doing 2 subjects sem 1, 3 subjects sem 2, and 2 subjects over the summer sem ( am doing the 2 common units then), and then the clinical subject i'll do next year in 2012.

i still havent enrolled yet mind you...having one drama after another lately... bcos the nurses board is SOOOOO slow at getting certificates out, im now having to fill out a manual enrolment form bcos without the cert being sent to CDU, then i cant be given any credits..and without the credits in place i cant enrol via the website in the 2 subjects i want to do 1st semester. so i have to write a longwinded explaination email and send it with all my paperwork. its so painful!!

Wow jules you certainly have it worked out. I havent quite worked out a plan yet.. as to what i will be studying.. but i will be taking it easy first semester to see how i cope. I'm kind of contemplating the partial payment with hecs-help for the rest now; just to make it a bit easier if i do decide to take on a heavier uni work load. Also.. frees up a bit of cash to support myself for when we do clinical placements.
Sounds like you have had a bit of a run around with the nurses board. They took forever to send my reg certificate out. I only applied to satac a few weeks ago and have provided them with all my documents so am hoping that is sufficient and they r passing it all onto cdu because CDU haven't requested anything off me.... yet.

I really hope this cyclone weather in darwin calms down so they can get all our things sorted out soon.

Hi Alli (and Lulu and Jules74). I'm from Melbourne as well and starting the Bachelor of Nursing at CDU too. I've enrolled in 4 subjects for semester 1 from the recommended study plan and I will see how I go with those before deciding on how many for 2nd semester.

Hi Nat, You will have to let us know how u cope with 4 subjects. Are u going straight into 2nd year(are u already an enrolled nurse)? or r u starting from scratch? I'm def starting out part time for first year but depending on how easy/hard it is i will probably try and tackle full time in 2nd year.

Thanks Alli. I think if i was to drop one it would be nur210. However I think i will stick to the 4 units i have for semester 1 and if it is too much i will drop one or two units for semester 2.
Nat I was going to ask you the same question as Alli, are you an EN already or will you be starting from the begining?
Does anyone have books yet?

Lulu: Ordered my books from CDU bookshop on thurs night.. hopefully they wont take too long. I will only have 4 units for the whole first year so i decided to order all my books for first year... plus i already have the pharmacology and nursing calcs book which is a bonus! one less book to buy.
By the way, i just heard back from the uni RE: credit.. Gotta send my certificate and reg certificate off to CDU today so they can fix it up and give me the correct 80 credit points.. not 40.
Also where abouts in melb is everyone from? and are you currently working as nurses? It sounds like we are all on different paths with how much study we are taking on; but i'm sure we will be able to help each other at different points through out the course.

hey, just go onto the bookshop on the cdu website.. punch in the unit code and it will tell u what books are "prescribed" for that subject.
Nur243(nursing practice 1) has 2 books: Clinical psychomotor skills by Tollefson & Medical surgical nursing assessment and management of clinical problems by Brown Edwards
And Nur231( Challenge and response to body integrity) you need 3 books i think..Microbiology for the Healthcare Professional
Understanding Pathophysiology - ANZ adaptation
Pharmacology for Health Professionals
It's all on the cdu website.. just type in the unit code and it will show u how much they cost and which ones are "prescribed" for that unit.

By the way i live in bentleigh, and am currently working in aged care. Congratulations on getting a grad place :D Thats great that your sister is doing the course with you as well, bit of extra support for the course, although i'm sure working in the industry will be a big help as well.

Just thought i would mention, for those of you who might get a shock at the cost of the books, the books for both of those subjects are used over multiple semester, not just one.

Hi Alli
I am also an EEN (finished my Diploma last year) I have been given 80 credit points, I am currently working full time but have enrolled to do 4 subjects a semester, just hope I can cope. I ordered my textbooks from the CDU bookshop, they took about 7 - 10 days to arrive and I am in southern NSW. There are two other ladies that are also EEN's that work with me doing the course, hopefully we will all get to meet each other and be study buddies lol......

Hey julz, thats great that you have a few work buddies doing the course with you as well. Yeah my books came pretty quick from the cdu bookshop. Ordered them thursday.. they turned up tuesday. By the way if any of you have ordered the nursing shirt... and it doesnt fit they do swap them! I had to send mine back because it was WAY too small.. they just wanted me to pay for the postage which is fair enough.
Can't wait for the units to start next week! :D

Yes I'm and EEN and will be going into 2nd year. I have all my kids at school (or finished school) now and I work nights so I'm giving the 4 units a go for the first semester.
I'm in Frankston and can't wait for everything to start! Only a couple of days to go now :)
