Hi Guys,

Just received my results for my entrance exam to get into Div 2 at Healthtrain Cheltenham Vic and now need to go for an interview the end of next week. I really want to be as prepared as possible as we get scored on our interview out of 40. I haven't been for an interview for years as I've been at home with the kids. Has anybody been through an interview with Healthtrain and could perhaps give me an idea on what to expect ? Any interview advice at all would be great! Many thanks Megan

Hey megan, no need to be nervous. They basically just want to know you will be able to manage study with family life or whatever else is going on in ur life. As well as making sure u have common sense.. I'm studying with health train currently and my interview basically was about different situations (such as if u were in a patients room and another nurse was doing something wrong... how would u handle it?? why u chose nursing.. that kinda stuff. Anyways im on msn if you would like to chat more. All the best with ur interview and dont stress... its only natural to be nervous for an interview and im sure you;ll be fine once your there.

thanks Alli,

I wasn't sure how intense it was going to be but doesn't sound too bad. I walked away with a really good feeling about healthtrain after their info night and would love to be offered a place there. I got 94% for the exam and want to do well with the interview hence the nerves!!

Are you happy there?

Will let you know how I go and if I get in would love to keep in touch and get your advice on different things!

Ps. Did it take long after your interview to hear if you got in?

Hi megan and alli,

I'm just curious to know what the difference is between the div 2 course at Chisholm for instance and Healthtrain? This is obviously a more privately run provider? Does it cost considerably more? Just curious as I'd love to become a div2 nurse, with the hope that I could go on to become a midwife, but after reading alot of the forums re this subject, it seems that the courses are that hard to get into, it hardly seems worth the bother. I have looked into another private one (can't remember what it is called) but the 2 year course was going to be $11,500 which is hardly feesible with 4 small children!! Anyway some info would be great. Thanks!

Hey Shazby,

I think Chisholm and Healthtrain are much the same. The fees for Health train are $700.00 something for each year ( It is a 2 year course part time ) and Chisholm is about $1800.00 something for 1 year fulltime. I have applied at both recently and sat entrance exams for both. If I had to choose at this stage I would pick healthtrain as it works in perfectly with my family. I have 2 kids 6 and 8. Div 2 is really hard to get into and i didn't realise that until I attended the info night for Chisholm and they said they were only taking 50 people out of approx 300 who applied!! I don't know I just walked away from the healthtrain info night feeling like that was the place for me, chisholm came across as a little arrogant, mind you If that was the only place that would offer me a spot I would take it as what choice do you have?! Dont give up though if nursing is what you really want to do. I know alot of the places are really expensive, I certainly cannot afford $10,000 or more!! If I dont get into healthtrain I guess I'll just have to try again for Feb intake.I hope you find something that works out for you and dont give up!!! ( That's what I keep telling myself!!! ) megan

Hey megan, yeah im very happy at health train.. although a little stressed out at times over study; the teachers are really supportive. For example alot of us are overwhelmed with an exam coming up as we have had quite a few recently. We all approached the teacher and were given another week to do some extra study. The teachers are fantastic and i get along well with everyone in my group. I can't say what the difference is with chisholm, but health train is a registered training orginisation, so there places are funded by the govt; which means you wont pay 10-15000 dollars like some private colleges.
Health train's fees are the same as any other tafe really and the hours work well for me. We have classes thursday and friday which is ideal for me as i can fit a few days work around it.
And megan as for waiting to find out i can't really remember i think it was about 2 weeks. But well done on your entrance exam. :D thats amazing. I only got about 60% on mine. Let me know how it all goes.

Hey alli,

Just thought I'd drop you a line and let you know I had my interview at healthtrain yesterday. All went great as far as I know. Penny interviewed me and she said I did exceptionally well. She said she couldn't guarantee me a place but I would get a very favourable letter in the next 2 weeks. Also she said I will get a very high score! Not sure what all that means but I'm very positive? The waiting is horrible!! Anyway will let you know if I get in. All the best Megan.
