Hi all,

I'm a DIV2 student nurse, and we have a wound care case study, and I am having trouble with the ADPIE section.

the question is

outline any specific clinical or diagnostic skills/techniques used in assessing, implementing and evaluating care for the following client.

A 76 year old male who has a history of hypertension, COAD and recently diagnosed diabetes. He is married and lives with his dependent wife in a high set home. His wife relies on him to manage the family home as their only daughter is living 500 klm away.

Medications:

- Metformin 500mg TDS

- Coversyl 2mg mane

- Bricanyl 2 x puffs mane

- Asprin 150mg daily

Personal history:

- smoker 15 cigarettes/day for 30 years - ceased 10 years ago

- alcohol - 4 stubbies/day (continuing)

- 61kg

- no surgical history

- diet - standard diet, continues with sugars

Presented with:

- stage 2 - venous ulcer

- colour - yellow with black islands of tissue (slough and necrotic islands)

- discharge - copious exudate

- obvious pus

- infection - staphylococcus micro-organism

Any help would be appreciated, I'm sure the penny will drop eventually, but at present I'm stuck on how to begin.

Cheers

Sao :-)
