Hi Shai.
Congrats on completing your cert 3.. OK you say you have done all the rounds of nursing homes in your area.. As we are coming to end of year be patient as staff turnover happens. When i completed my cert 3 in Dec 09 .. Placed resumes everywhere, age care facilities hospital system. I got my first interview just after Christmas. Started Jan 1. Worked at this facility for approx 9 weeks when I got a call from a facility where I did my student work placement , I did some volunteer work over the Xmas holiday season there too. It paid off I was offered a position.. Again be patient I have heard of people mention Gumtree have a look there. Normally Nursing homes don't normally advertise, as I mentioned the turn over of staff at some facilities is consistent. Its just a matter of timing. Anyway good luck again be patient..

Hi, I've just started cert 3 at tafe and as sad as this sounds, I'm absolutly bewildered; I'm feeling like a complete moron. I',ve worked for 10 years as a personal carer in the disability field and managed fine in all that that entailed, but when it comes to doing this, I'm so confused. Example, am I meant to do my assessments at home, am I meant to do them in the class like a test, am I meant to do them on the questionares provided or on seperate paper. The feild visit experience assessments, can I write what I know before the visit, or must I do it later??????????? I havn't studied anything for 30 odd years

Hi, it's me again; After reading my earlier message, I still feel a variation of my incompetance to understand what should be, not so differcult. I do now understand my first assessment is a practical demo, then an exam, then a computer based activity. As for the exam, an open book one, I was wondering if I'm allowed to do this at home or am I meant to do it in the class at a set time? I know I will need to ask the teacher about these concerns, I'm just feeling frustrated that I didn't concentrate hard enough to know these things; I'm now having to learn to not only concentrate more, but memorize sooooo many things at once. When I was working, I had know trouble remembering everyones medications, documentations of whatever was required, all neccesary personal care etc; I realize a lot of my past work was habitual to a certain degree, but there were frequent changes in medications, residents pyschological behaviors etc. Now I believe my learning ability is slow. I'm one of the oldest in the class and I just want to understand and learn.

Hi everyone, i am currently studying cert111 in aged care with Oten online learning and have two assignments to complete and then the rest are in placement, just wondering if anyone knows how to apply for placement as i have to do this myself, and also should I start now. Do i just ring first or send in resumes and would I be better to go to high care or does it have to be a mixture. So confused please help if anyone else has studied through them would love to hear from you also :)

Hi Gail. You say you are doing your course through correspondence.May I ask which correspondence are you going through and why are they not organising your work placement or at least advise when is a good time and how to go about organising work placement for oneself... I did my course through a training college and that was organised early in the course.. With not knowing details on your course, I can only speak from my experience and from people who have done correspondence course from a registered training agency they have found them workplacement. Well alI can say phone your age care facilities in your area. Explain that you are a student and need to get your ninety or so hours up. I do not want to make further comment until further details are posted.

Naomi, all you need to be is a caring friendly person in regards to personality types. You need to make sure your teacher supports you enough through your training and helps you with your questions and assisgnment that is what they are there for.

Hi ALL, glad to hear so many people are enjoying this course and the work afterwards. I have just started my cert 3 in aged care and am doing it online, which is quite daunting as its so different from anything i have ever done.
I am in need of some help with an assessment question: What 5 things should a care plan for an older client include?
at first i thought it was the steps involved in creating a care plan however there are only 4 and it wouldnt really fit the question anyway.
ANY help would be great and MUCH appreciated! Thankyou, and good luck to us all!

6 things a care plan should include....1. mobility (independent or requires an aide, walker, wheelchair or just supervision when ambulating. 2. hygiene independent or requires assistance x1 or x2, bedbath, preferred time for hygiene cares 3. continence independent or requires assistance, continence aides toiletting plan.. 4. nutrition/hydration independent or requires assistance, normal diet, soft diet, vitamised, full feed allergies, likes and dislikes. tea/coffee preference, thin, 1/4, 1/2 of fully thickened fluid, normal cup/beaker 5. sleep, preferred waking and bed times, daytime sleep. 6. dressing...requries assistance or independent. this is just an outline but i hope it helps u or at least points u in the right direction. cheers, quirks.
